The following is a news release from the Hermiston School District

HERMISTON – Hermiston School District, in partnership with the Cook Center for Human Connection, offers parents free individual coaching sessions through ParentGuidance.org, a site developed by licensed therapists that provides trusted and specialized courses, professional support, and a safe community for parents to learn how to support their child.

Interested parents may visit https://cookcenter.info/coaching for information and to see if coaching is a good fit. Key coaching topics include:

1.      Our basic needs:  Learn about your child’s basic needs and why responding to them can shape their future.

2.      Secure attachments:  How to create an environment where our children feel safe.

3.      Attuning to your child:  How to be aware of your child’s needs and respond to them in a way that helps your child.

4.      Emotional development:  Learn the key components of your child’s emotional development and how to help your child as they grow.

The one-on-one parent coaching includes weekly 30-minute sessions by phone or video conference with a trained professional, a parenting curriculum app with Roadmap options, and text messaging for immediate support. The coaching sessions coincide with the district’s virtual mental health series, where licensed therapists share ways parents can help their children with mental health concerns.

The goal is that ParentGuidance.org provides concerned parents with a place to go for answers to support and help their children struggling with depression, anxiety, self-harm, bullying, grief and family strife, just to name a few, as well as provide tools for forming stronger bonds between parents and their children.
