HERMISTON – The Hermiston School District is facing staffing shortages. Superintendent Tricia Mooney said it’s not unlike the COVID-induced shortages suffered by area businesses. The biggest area of concern is a shortage of substitute teachers.
“We’re taking some of our classified assistants that we know can do the job and are getting them emergency substitute licenses,” Mooney said. “It’s kind of a shell game, moving people around to make sure that we have our students covered.”
Mooney also lauded teachers who are stepping up to cover for each other and community members who have already answered the call for help.
“If you’ve got time, we can definitely use you on our team” Mooney said to people who are looking for work.
Job listings and an application can be accessed at the Human Resources page on the district website.
