HERMISTON – The Oregon Senate has approved $250 million in programs for summer learning and childcare. The spending bill awaits Gov. Kate Brown’s signature.
“Planning for the robust summer program that these funds will offer is going to take some time,” Hermiston School Superintendent Tricia Mooney said.
While the specifics are yet to be ironed out, Mooney knows what she would like to see – experiences that engage students in hands-on learning.
“We’re going to look at opportunities at the high school level CTE (career technical education) offerings,” she said. “At the elementary level, we’re looking at a summer camp program.” She said the district has reached out to Champions around childcare efforts to support elementary students.
