HERMISTON – The Hermiston School District Board of Directors has changed its mission statement and its focus. The old statement was “Striving to be the premier public school district in Oregon.” It is now “Future focused: building knowledge and skills for tomorrow.”
Superintendent Tricia Mooney said Chairman Brian Goller felt the focus should be more on HSD than on other districts.
“Our vision and our mission – what we do in Hermiston – should be about comparing ourselves to ourselves and saying, ‘What do today and how can we do that better tomorrow,’” Mooney said.
She said you can’t compare one district to others in Oregon.
“We’re a team with other districts,” she said. “Across the state we have an invested interest in the education of all of our students.”
