HERMISTON – While some cities and counties are banning the use of fireworks over the Fourth of July weekend, Hermiston is not.
“The path that the city of Hermiston has taken is one of encouraging common sense and people to be reasonable with what they do on the Fourth of July,” Police Chief Jason Edmiston said.
Edmiston said that the majority of fireworks-related calls his office gets are for illegal pyrotechnics, and it’s hard enough to police those. He urged people lighting legal fireworks to be careful.
“Having water nearby, being responsible, not overdoing it, and making sure that kids aren’t running in the street are all things that we would encourage people to do,” he said.
The city of Hermiston is also hosting a public fireworks show from the top of the butte Sunday night.
