HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council meets at 7 p.m. today (Monday) and one of the items on the agenda is a resolution calling for the hiring of four additional police officers to mount an around-the-clock beat at Good Shepherd Medical Center. Good Shepherd Health Care System will pay the salaries for the new officers.

A staff report states that Chief Jason Edmiston has been having conversations with GSHCS leadership over the past few years about a police presence at the hospital and that, with the recent change in leadership at Good Shepherd, it was agreed upon by both parties to have one officer per shift assigned to the facility. GSHCS has agreed to pay for all costs related to this level of service including salaries, benefits, taxes, training, and equipment costs.

Prior to the council meeting, a work session is scheduled at 6 p.m. The council will have a municipal broadband discussion. Both the work session and the meeting are open to the public from council chambers at Hermiston City Hall. The meetings are also streamed live on Hermiston’s YouTube channel.
