HERMISTON – Hermiston police officers were dispatched to the Walmart parking lot Friday night at 10:55 for a reported fight in progress involving multiple subjects. Two people were caught fleeing the scene and were detained.
Police Chief Jason Edmiston reports that several others fled the scene before police arrived, including the victim of the alleged assault by Arturo Iniguez, 24, of Hermiston and a 17-year-old male.
“During the investigation it was determined Iniguez was the driver of a 2014 GMC Sierra pickup still parked in the parking lot and the juvenile was the front passenger,” Edmiston wrote in an email. “Three semi-automatic handguns were seen in the center console and on the front passenger floorboard.”
The registered owner of the truck was Iniguez’s mother. She was driven to the scene and signed a consent form that allowed the officers to search the vehicle.
“A Glock 22, 40 cal. with an extended magazine containing 23 rounds was located in the center console along with a Springfield Arms 9mm with a standard magazine containing 13 rounds,” Edmiston wrote. “A P80 9mm with an extended magazine containing 40 rounds was located on the front passenger floorboard.”
The investigation revealed that the Glock had been stolen in Pendleton. Iniguez and the teenager were transported to the police department for processing. The boy was transported to the juvenile detention center by the Umatilla County Sheriff’s Office to a juvenile detention center. Iniguez was lodged at the Umatilla County Jail, charged with first-degree theft, unlawful possession of a firearm, and disorderly conduct.
