Hot embers thrown in trash spark fire in WW

WALLA WALLA – Hot embers discarded into a garbage can next to a two-story home started a fire Wednesday morning.

The Walla Walla Fire Department was dispatched at 10:26 a.m. to the 200 block of Eagan Street for a residential structure fire. As part of a mutual-aid agreement, Walla Walla County Fire District No. 4 also responded. The fire was reported by a passerby as the nobody was inside the home at the time of the incident.

The fire caused about $1,500 worth of damage to the home’s exterior siding. No injuries were reported.

Firefighters remind residents to ensure hot embers are completely extinguished and disposed of properly.
