Hornet removal attempt causes house fire

WALLA WALLA – An attempt to kill a hornet’s nest did not go according to plan Monday night as firefighters were dispatched just after 10 p.m.to the 1000 block of Willow Street to the report of a residential structure fire.

The Walla Walla Fire Department said the use of bug spray and a torch on the home’s exterior caused a smoldering fire that later spread to the attic.

Damage is estimated at $150,000. No injuries were reported.

Crews from Walla Walla Fire District No. 4 and College Place Fire Department provided mutual-aid.
