HONG KONG – A Hong Kong court dismissed a gun possession charge against Sen. Jeff Wilson (R-Longview). The case was resolved on Monday.
“This was a mistake on my part, and I’ve accepted responsibility for that,” he said. “There is a system and I respect that system.”
Wilson inadvertently brought a revolver in his carry-on luggage on an international flight. He discovered the unloaded weapon in his briefcase on the flight from the United States to China when he reached into his briefcase for a piece of gum.
Baggage screeners missed the gun at Portland International Airport.
Wilson surrendered the revolver to customs authorities in Hong Kong upon landing on Oct. 20. He was arrested and held until posting bail. With the case dismissed, Wilson is resuming his travels in Southeast Asia.
