HELLS CANYON– (Release from Idaho Power) The tunnel on Homestead Road will be closed during the day for approximately six weeks starting Oct. 21 for maintenance.
The tunnel will close from 8 a.m.—5 p.m. MT seven days a week and reopen at night. A bypass road is available. That road is not suitable for trailers or vehicles with low ground clearance.
Homestead Road runs north from Copperfield Campground and follows the Snake River to Ballard Creek. The tunnel was originally a railroad passage.
