NORTHEAST OREGON – Local high school teams and athletes from Baker, Union and Wallowa counties are gearing up for what should be an epic weekend, as state playoffs are underway and champions will be crowned.
In football, Baker looks to advance in the first round of the 4A playoffs when the Bulldogs host Junction City at home on Saturday at 1:00pm. In 1A 8-man ball, The Leopards of Cove travel to nearby Wallowa County to take on Enterprise in round one. That game kicks off at 6:00pm on Friday.
On the volleyball court, Both Joseph and Powder Valley have a chance to bring home the title this weekend. Both teams are in Redmond for the 1A state tournament. The Badgers face Crosshill Christian at 3:15 on Friday and the Eagles face Umpqua Valley Christian at 1:15. If either team wins, they’ll play in the semi’s that night. If either makes it to the championship, that’ll take place on Saturday.
Finally to the race course, multiple teams from across the tri-county area are in Eugene for the cross country championships. The races are being held at Lane Community College and a number of teams and athletes will channel their inner Prefontaine’s to bring home individual or team titles.
