Home heavily damaged by fire

WALLA WALLA – Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a field on fire with a possible house involved on the 200 block of Avery Street at 8:42 a.m. Sunday.

When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from a single-story residence and flames coming from the side of the structure. Work began immediately to extinguish the fire, which was beginning to spread throughout the home. With the help of College Place Fire Department and Walla Walla County Fire District No. 4, the fire was under control at 9:13 a.m.

The fire caused extensive damage to the home and its contents. Damage is estimated at $160,000.

The fire began on the outside of the home near several large household appliances. While the cause is undetermined, it is likely electrical.

There were no injuries to firefighters or the home’s occupants, however the residents’ dog passed away.
