Hit-and-run driver arrested in John Day

JOHN DAY – A man is in jail after driving from a crash scene and acting erratically at a local grocery store. The Grant County Sheriff’s Office responded to the report of a hit-and-run incident at approximately 1:13 p.m. yesterday, followed by a second call on the same individual acting up at Chester’s Market. Kyle Jensen Strong, 35, of Bend was arrested for Driving while Suspended, Fail to Perform Duties of a Driver, Reckless Driving, and DUII.

On November 21st, 2024, near 1315 hours, Deputies responded to a report of a hit-and-run at the Best Western Motel in John Day. The report was that a Chevy pickup operated by a male driver had struck a post in front of the office and had driven off. 

Deputies were advised of a second call on the same individual and it was reported that a male was in Chester’s Thriftway acting erratic. This individual was reportedly the same individual that was involved in the hit-and-run at the Best Western. 

The vehicle then reportedly left Chester’s and returned to the Best Western where Deputies made contact with the vehicle operator Kyle Strong, 35, of Bend. 

Strong was arrested for Driving while Suspended, Fail to Perform Duties of a Driver, Reckless Driving, and DUII. 

Strong was transported to and lodged at the Grant County Jail.
