WALLA WALLA COUNTY – The Walla Walla County Board of Commissioners is set to meet tomorrow
morning (Monday) to consider the release of more than $380,000 in economic development funds to transform a century-old schoolhouse into a modern hub for the city of Prescott.
The 8:45 a.m. vote will determine the allocation of sales tax fund monies designated for the Prescott Town Hall Expansion and Modernization Project. The funding package includes $200,000 from the Port of Walla Walla and $181,039.35 from Walla Walla County.
The project centers on the acquisition of the “Teachers Cottage” located at 202 West First St. Built in 1921, the historic structure was sold by the Prescott School District for $380,000.
According to officials, the purchase and sale agreement has already been executed. The transaction is currently scheduled to close through Land Title Company, marking a transition for a building that has been a fixture of the community for over 100 years.
The Teachers Cottage originally served as a residence for teaching staff and administration. Over the decades, it has housed various school superintendents and faculty, and more recently provided office space for the school district.
The modernization project aims to repurpose the spacious historical site to better serve Prescott’s municipal needs while preserving a piece of the region’s educational heritage.
