HARNEY COUNTY-Over the past weekend, first responders from Burns Fire Department, Hines Volunteer Fire Department, Long Creek, Mt. Vernon Fire Department and Canyon City Fire Department participated in a Hazmat Awareness and Operations Training, instructed by the Ontario Fire & Rescue Region 14 Hazmat Team. The training was hosted by Hines Volunteer Fire Department.
Hazmat Awareness and Operations Training enables first responders to recognize, identify, and safely initiate actions during a hazardous materials incident.
Awareness focuses on recognizing dangers and calling for resources, while operations level teaches defensive containment, PPE usage and decontamination to protect people, property, and the environment.
