PRAIRIE CITY – The Grant County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team have been somewhat active this month. Sheriff McKinley referred to this time of the year as the “start of lost people season.”
The Sheriff said one call last week involved locals who had gotten separated:
“They got separated—locals. One of them actually walked from Four Corners almost back to Prairie City, the ‘back’ way, and it was quite a walk. It could have turned into an interesting event, had they gotten injured out there somewhere…
Our SAR area was so big at that point, it would have been pretty difficult to locate them. But, they turned up in Prairie, and were able to get family corralled. Everybody kept around and got taken care of.”
Sheriff McKinley advises everyone going into the woods to make someone aware of where you plan to explore, when you plan to get back, and when to call for help if you haven’t returned.
