High winds prompt warning, advisory

PENDLETON – The National Weather Service has issued a high wind warning for the base of the northern Blue Mountains of Oregon and a wind advisory in the foothills of the Blues from 10 p.m. tonight (Tuesday) until 4 p.m. tomorrow.

Forecasters estimate that the area under the warning will experience winds out of the south at 30 to 40 miles per hour with gusts up to 60 miles per hour. Those in the advisory area will experience winds out of the south ranging from 25 to 35 miles per hour with gusts up to 50.

The strongest winds are expected along Interstate 84 at Cabbage Hill overnight. Below that, winds will be slightly weaker. Winds are expected to blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are also expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
