PENDLETON – The National Weather Service in Pendleton has issued a high wind warning for the foothills of the Blue Mountains in Oregon and Washington and the Simcoe Highlands. It goes into effect at 1 a.m. Tuesday and ends at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
Southwest winds of 30 to 40 miles per hour with gusts up to 65 miles per hour are expected. The winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
Forecasters warn that people should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, they should remain in the lower levels of their homes and avoid windows. Caution is urged for those who must drive.
