GRANT COUNTY – Grant County Emergency Management has issued a High Water Update today. According to the agency, Canyon City has closed the Nugget St. Bridge as a precaution due to high water.

Reports have come in regarding debris in the John Day River near Moon Creek. Grant County Road Department crews were responding to the area at last update.

In addition, flooding has been reported in the Bear Valley basin along Scotty Creek.

GCEM reports that, “Based on hydrologic prediction models it appears that today we will see peak water levels for this week. The John Day River at John Day is predicted to remain well below flood stage.”

Motorists who encounter water over the roadway are urged to proceed with caution, and if you cannot see the pavement, it may not be safe to proceed. The public is asked to report any high water on the roads to the Grant County Emergency Communications Agency at 541-575-0195.

Emergency Management writes for the public to, “Be cautious near stream and riverbanks as the banks may be soft, slick or unstable. Water is moving very fast and is very cold.”
