High school exhibition awards young artists

LA GRANDE – (Information provided by Eastern Oregon University) The 18th annual Eastern Oregon Regional High School Art Exhibition opens Feb. 25 at Eastern Oregon University’s Nightingale Gallery. 

Awards will be presented at the opening reception, hosted from 5 to 7 p.m. in the gallery. 

Students working in a variety of media in grades nine through 12 will have up to two works on view through March 15. Schools with participating students include Baker City, Echo, Elgin, Enterprise, Grant-Union, Joseph, La Grande, McLoughlin (Milton-Freewater), North Powder, Pendleton, Union and Wallowa.  

EOU Art faculty jury the exhibit and award a number of honors. Best of Show winners in each grade earn a certificate, gift card, and sketchbook and EOU swag. Students can also receive special awards sponsored by the La Grande Arts Commission, Art Center East, Crossroads Carnegie Art Center, and Pendleton Center for the Arts and the Josephy Center for Arts and Culture. 

“The Nightingale Gallery is pleased to be able to exhibit the creative endeavors of our region’s youth,” said Nightingale Gallery Director Cory Peeke. “We hope to champion these students and inspire them to continue their artistic pursuits, as well as recognize the hard work and dedication of their teachers who conscientiously cultivate such promising young artists.”
The Nightingale Gallery is located in Loso Hall on the campus of Eastern Oregon University in La Grande, Oregon. Gallery hours are 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
