HHS junior gets national award

HERMISTON – Robert Bartman, a member of the Hermiston High School class of 2025, has been awarded the national Horatio Alger Scholarship. This marks the second consecutive year a student from the Hermiston School District has received the honor.
The National Horatio Alger Scholarship is awarded to only 105 high school juniors across the nation. It provides $25,000 over four years of college. In addition it offers a year-long college success program during the senior year in high school to prepare scholars for the transition to higher education.
“Robert Bartman’s journey is a testament to the qualities of a high-achieving student,” the district stated in a news release. “His pursuit of education funding, leadership, dedication to community service, and academic excellence set him apart. His story is one of hard work, determination, and a proactive search for opportunities, all of which have been instrumental in his success.”
Last year, Hermiston senior Andrea Sanchez Garavito was recognized as a Horatio Alger Scholar. The Horatio Alger Association also offers scholarships for current high school students, career and technical education, students attending college, and students seeking graduate degrees.
