Hermiston woman cited, hospitalized after jumping into I-84 traffic

PENDLETON – A Hermiston woman was placed on a peace officer hold Monday night after multiple callers reported her jumping into traffic on Interstate 84.
A peace officer hold allows officers to detain someone if they have probable cause that the person is a danger to themselves or anyone else, and is in need of immediate care, custody or treatment for mental illness.
When Oregon State Police troopers responded, they observed the woman walking towards the train tracks near Exit 207 in Pendleton. She was located lying on the catwalk of a train car.
The 52-year-old woman was taken into custody without incident and transported to CHI St. Anthony Hospital in Pendleton for examination after telling officers she had been struck by vehicles.
She was cited for disorderly conduct and criminal trespass before being placed on the hold.
