HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council has approved a contract with Culbert Construction, Inc. of Pasco to build an extension of Southeast Ninth Street between Penney Avenue and Feedville Road. It will also extend Penney from Southeast Ninth to about 1,200 feet to the west.
The contract with Culbert is for $2,496,117.07. The city will be reimbursed by Amazon Web Services for the entire project.
“The project will also install new water and sewer main all the way down to Feedville and all the way to the western property line of Amazon, and then install a new sewer lift station at the intersection of Penney and Ninth,” Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan said.
Amazon is also paying for curbs, gutters, and sidewalks along the west side of the roadway. It’s expected to break ground on its second data center this winter.
The construction will also open up more land for development on the side of the street opposite Amazon Web Services. City staff also reports that the project will significantly improve access to potable water and sanitary sewer services to the land that’s south of Feedville Road.
