HERMISTON(News release from the Hermiston School District) Hermiston School District is moving forward with important safety upgrades at Desert View Elementary this summer, thanks to the remaining funds from the community-approved 2019 school bond.

The project includes a new secure entry vestibule to better control access to the school and improvements to traffic flow for safer, more efficient student drop-off and pick-up.

“This project is about providing peace of mind for families and a safer school environment for our students,” said Superintendent Tricia Mooney. “It’s another example of how we’re maximizing our community’s investment in local schools.”

This is the latest in a series of successful projects funded by the 2019 bond, including:

● Construction of Rocky Heights Elementary and Loma Vista Elementary (new schools)

● A new secure entry vestibule at Highland Hills Elementary

● The addition of a High School Annex to support student growth

The renovation is scheduled as a summer blitz project, which means construction will begin and finish during the summer break minimizing disruption for students and staff.

The project, formally titled Bid HSD 005-2023 Desert View Elementary School Renovation, has been awarded to CB Construction, Inc. of La Grande, Oregon. The bid was due May 8, 2025, and the Intent to Award will be published on May 14, 2025. The Hermiston School District remains committed to enhancing student safety, managing community resources wisely, and continuing to improve school facilities for all families.
