HERMISTON – A Hermiston transient is in Umatilla County Jail after he allegedly stabbed another transient several times Thursday, July 18. Shane Springer, 35, is charged with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, attempted unlawful use of a weapon, and a parole violation. All of the charges against him are felonies.

Capt. Travis Eynon said that officers were called out to a stabbing in the area in front of 45 W. Cherry Ave., in front of the parole and probation office. They found Christopher McBride, 45, on the ground with what appeared to be multiple knife wounds.

Eynon said that several witnesses reported that Springer assaulted McBride. The suspect was located a short distance away and taken into custody.

“Mr. McBride was treated at Good Shepherd and then flown to another hospital in Portland,” Eynon said. “Mr. McBride is talking to us and is expected to recover from his wounds.”

Eynon said the investigation into the assault is “very active” with a lot of work remaining to be done.
