Hermiston — (News release from Hermiston School District) The Hermiston High School wrestling program delivered another outstanding performance at the WIAA Mat Classic XXXVI, with the boys’ team securing 2nd place for the fourth consecutive year and the girls’ team earning 3rd place—their first-ever team trophy at state.
Leading the boys’ team was Jaysen Rodriguez, who claimed a state championship title, continuing Hermiston’s tradition of excellence. Other podium finishers included: Aidan Larson – 2nd place; Dominic Echeverria, Jayden Martinez, and Bryan Medelez – 3rd place; Jacoby Rodriguez – 4th place; Mason Miracle – 5th place; Brayden Harrison – 7th place.
The girls’ team made history with their best-ever state finish, led by strong individual performances: Iaunny Ruiz and Tuta Sepeni – 3rd place; Emily Stone and Kianna Gutierrez-Munoz– 4th place; Jaydan McKim – 7th place; Jorgia McKim – 8th place.
“Our community and our school have so much to be proud of with our wrestling program,” said Hermiston High School Director of Athletics and Activities Larry Usher. “The way these athletes competed and represented Hermiston was incredible. We are very excited about what the future holds, as we have the potential to continue excelling on both the boys’ and girls’ sides for years to come.”
This remarkable achievement is a testament to the hard work of Hermiston’s athletes, coaches, and supporters. Congratulations to all wrestlers, coaches, and families for another incredible season.
