HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council voted this evening to issue a total of 12 annual mobile food vendor licenses in the city. The ordinance governing the number allowed was six. The six additional licenses will go into effect 30 days from tonight (Monday).

The council also learned that an individual who is planning a food pod business can have as many mobile vendors as wanted. The licensing process for food pods is different from the issuance of city permits.

Before the vote, some council members said if there is a concern that 12 is no longer enough, they would be receptive to removing the cap altogether the next time the issue is brought before them.

The council also unanimously approved the sale of 10 acres of land in the South Hermiston Industrial Park (SHIP). The city purchased about 44.4 acres of land in 2024 for $41,175.28 per acre. The 10 acres is being sold for $650,000.

The planned light industrial development includes a 30,000 square foot facility that could be expanded to 95,000 square feet. Its use will be light industrial development. The purchaser was not identified at the meeting. The city used Utility Fund dollars to buy the property, and all of the proceeds from the sale will be returned to the utility fund.
