HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council meets this evening (Monday) at 7 and will hold a public hearing on a proposal to annex land to the city and zone it for residential and commercial development. The land is owned by Hermiston Home Works, Inc.
The staff report says the land, approximately 80 acres, is on the east side of Southeast 10th Street near Blue Mountain Community College and the Eastern Oregon Higher Education Center. The site extends from Southeast 10th northerly and easterly to East Highland Avenue and is north of the Hermiston Municipal Airport.
The property is reported to be adjacent to a variety of land uses and, staff reports say, is large enough to develop compatible uses with all surrounding uses. The owners want to remove the property from the city’s future industrial inventory lands.
Also, the council will vote on a rate increase proposed by Waste Connections, Inc., doing business locally as Sanitary Disposal, Inc. WCI has purchased all of the local assets from SDI. The city reports that the increases are in line with the cost of services in other communities. They would take effect April 1. The rate hike is necessary, according to WCI, due to aging equipment.
The meeting is in Council Chambers of Hermiston City Hall. It is also to be streamed live on Hermiston’s YouTube channel.
