HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council meeting heard from the public and then voted to take no action on legalizing marijuana businesses in the city. It had been suggested by citizens that could be another possible stream of revenue.

Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan reports there were 60 to 70 people in attendance, well above the average. After listening to public testimony, the council voted 7-1 to take no action regarding putting the question on the ballot for the November election.

Mayor Dave Drotzmann and others pointed out that there is nothing to stop private citizens from putting it on the ballot. The Oregon Liquor and Cannabis Commission currently has a moratorium on granting new licenses, but that will expire next month. It is not clear if the OLCC will vote to extend it.
