HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council is pursuing the possibility of the city operating its own broadband service. Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan said that consultants are exploring the possibility and at a recent work session, reported what the current internet costs are.
“To provide all of our various city facilities with internet at the speeds that they’re achieving right now, we spend approximately $75,000 a year,” Morgan said.
The next step will be determining how much developing a city-owned broadband network would cost.
“The next step is to do a market analysis of what some potential repayment options might be if the council were to consider building out our own fiber network to our own facilities,” Morgan said.
