HERMISTON – The Hermiston City Council approved items that pave the way for construction of two RV parks near the Eastern Oregon Trade and Event Center.
The first item makes amendments to the zoning map and comprehensive plan and the annexation of 20 acres at 1835 E. Airport Road. That property is planned for an RV park to support EOTEC and community needs. It is owned by Farm-City Pro Rodeo, which has authorized the city to move forward with the annexation. This is known as RV South.
The second item is a resolution awarding a construction contract for RV North on the EOTEC campus. It is along Ott Road and will primarily serve event-related needs of EOTEC.
Assistant City Manager Mark Morgan clarified that Amazon Web Services has agreed to pay $8 million towards the construction. That’s in exchange for having up to 100 spaces guaranteed for its workers. The workers will pay to rent the spaces.
“In response to some operational thoughts with regard to operating the Umatilla County Fair and other large events, the total RV spaces were split in two separate areas,” Morgan said. The RV South area, along Airport Road, will be reserved for long-term stays including AWS construction workers. The RV North area along Ott Road will primarily be for serving event-related needs for events using the EOTEC.”
