WALLA WALLA – Walla Walla Parks and Recreation Director Andy Coleman reports the project to transform Heritage Square Park into a centerpiece for downtown is moving along well.
Once the transformation is complete, Heritage Square Park will be a new place for public events and performances.
The construction crew made an unexpected find back in January – a 10,000 gallon storage tank. At that time, the cost of removing the tank and disposing of its contents was said to add $130,000 to the $2.6 million renovation project. It was also reported no contaminants were found in the ground.
Coleman expects substantial completion by the end of May and Heritage Square Park will be able to be opened to the public. A ribbon cutting and dedication ceremony is planned for Saturday, July 13th. Coleman said there will be more details to come on that event.
