HELIX – The Heart of the Country Rodeo is Saturday at the Quantum 9 Arena. The annual event includes three rough stock competitions, events for children, live music, and good food. It also includes a chance to buy a cowboy.
Organizer Jarod Campbell said the Calcutta at 7 p.m. Friday gives the public a chance to bid on who they think will win their events. In recent years, the Calcutta has been held in Helix, but in the hopes of gathering a bigger crowd, it’s moving back to the Round-Up City.
“We auction off all the rough stock riders,” Campbell said. “This year we are having it at the Rainbow here in Pendleton.”
The rodeo is also featuring a new event – break-away roping – this year. In addition, both the Helix rodeo and the Ukiah Rodeo coming up later this month have contributed $1,000 each in prize money for the top cowboy or cowgirl to compete in both rodeos.
