PENDLETON – It’s too hot for the summer youth program in Pendleton’s parks.
“We’ve actually had to move the summer adventure camp program in the park indoors,” he said. “Usually, in less extreme heat situations, you can kind of roll with the punches a little bit and do more water play.”
Record-setting daytime highs of well over 100 degrees are not the kind of punch with which you can roll, though.
“We’ve actually managed to secure a school gym, so the kids are going to move inside there,” Hughes said. “We really value that partnership we have with the schools. They’ve always been great to us in working with us to help the kids.”
Hughes said he expects that the Pendleton Aquatic Center will be a popular venue during the hot weather. Capacity limits on pools have been rescinded. Pendleton City Manager Robb Corbett suggested the Pendleton Public Library is a good place to get cool. It is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Thursday and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
