WALLA WALLA – The Walla Walla Fire Department was dispatched at 1:12 a.m. today (Friday) to the 600 block of North Roosevelt Street for a residential structure fire. Walla Walla County Fire District No. 4 also responded as part of a mutual-aid agreement.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found a fire in the back of the resident, with a small chicken coop, fence, and the exterior of the home on fire.

Firefighters were slightly delayed making access as a power line to the home was lying across a metal fence, presenting a hazard. After access was made, firefighters at the fire under control at 1:38 a.m.

No injuries were reported, and damage has been estimated at $30,000.

The cause of the fire was accidental in nature as a heat lamp in the chicken coop was too close to combustibles.
