Heart of Grant County reports DV increases by 20% during the holidays

JOHN DAY – Heart of Grant County Advocate Elisha Nightingale was in the studio Wednesday, and highlighted some concerning statistics regarding domestic violence during the holiday season:

“The statistics are showing that domestic violence often is up twenty percent within the holiday season. You know, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s…so to see a twenty percent increase in domestic violence is unfortunate. That’s a lot of stress and pain for families to go through.”

Nightingale mentioned that oftentimes the rise in domestic violence during the holidays can be correlated with increased alcohol consumption. The Heart of Grant County 24-Hour Crisis Line is (541) 620-1342.
