JOHN DAY – Recently, Heart of Grant County Advocate Rayme Lacey was on KJDY’s Coffee Time. As we approach the new year, Lacey reminded our listeners that January is Stalking Awareness Month. She said some victims of stalking or other types of abuse may not want to involve law enforcement, they may just want to be safe. She explained that a restraining order doesn’t need to involve the police:
“A restraining order is a civil matter. You can come in and file a restraining order and get that restraining order approved, and the other party won’t be in any criminal trouble unless they violate that restraining order.
You don’t deal with the police at all, other than dropping off the approved restraining order to the Sheriff’s Office—and the client doesn’t have to do that, we can do that for them.”
The Heart of Grant County Domestic Abuse crisis line is available during all hours of the day at (541) 620- 1342.
