JOHN DAY – February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. Recently on KJDY’s Coffee Time, Heart of Grant County Advocate Rayme Lacey assured our teenage listeners that teen relationships oftentimes come with certain pressures, and that it’s okay to say “no”:

“If you’re in a relationship and being pressured into having sex or making things move along faster than you want to, that’s not okay. If somebody is very jealous and possessive, saying, ‘These are my signs of love.’ That is not love. That is definitely not okay.”

Layce said there are plenty of resources available for anyone local of any age who is experiencing violence in their relationship:

“I just really want to make sure that teens know that we are free and confidential. You can come in and talk to us and we won’t go blabbing to your parents. We might not have a solution, but we can at least try to help you find one.”

Heart of Grant County’s 24-hour hotline number is (541) 620-1342.
