PENDLETON – Pendleton School Superintendent Kevin Headings is pleased with First Student, the district’s new school bus provider. He said there were the typical glitches with late buses when the school year had just begun, but he believes parents will be pleased with the new company. He saw problems that made him uneasy with the old company in his previous position with the Hermiston School District.

“A lot of communication didn’t come through,” he said. “It was something that kept me up at night. First Student is amazing.”

He said in October, once the student population has stabilized, First Student will roll out an app that will mean a lot to parents.

“They’ll get a notification about 15 to 20 minutes before the bus gets to their house in the morning so that they can better prepare,” he said. “On that app, they can also see where the bus is at any time.”

He said that when each student gets on the bus the name will be taken to indicate the child is onboard.
