TOUCHET – The portion of the Hat Rock Fire that burned into Walla Walla County has been contained, according to Walla Walla County Fire District No. 6 Chief Rusty Waite.
Waite said crews had the fire contained at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, then began mopping up. By Thursday afternoon, two strike teams consisting of 14 to 20 personnel were demobilized.
The fire, which started in Umatilla County Tuesday, burned an estimated 1,500 acres near Touchet. Waite said no infrastructure or structures were burned.
Umatilla County Fire District No. 1 puts the fire at 15,843 acres in Oregon. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
