HERMISTON, Oregon – Hermiston Area Rapid Transit is expanding. Currently the free bus service is operating from around 9:10 a.m. to 4:50 p.m. on weekdays. Beginning Monday it will operate from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The transit system, which is operated by Kayak Public Transit owned by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation, was originally started to serve mainly those participating in the senior and disabled ride service.
Ridership has increased dramatically in the past two years, and the increased operating hours will enable people to use the service to get to and from work. The routes will remain the same.
The increased hours of operation will be funded by a grant. The service will remain free to riders.
