Harney County School District closes school rest of the week due to flooding

HARNEY COUNTY-Harney County School District #3 decided during a special board meeting on Monday, March 31st, to cancel school for the rest of the week due to unpredictable health and safety concerns in the community from the current flooding. Hines Middle School will continue to be open for showers from Noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (April 1-3rd) and from Noon – 6 pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (April 4-6th)

The school district will continue to provide grab-and-go meals for children aged 1-18 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at Slater Elementary School. Children do not need to be present, but a parent must pick up the meals for them. 

Optional sports participation will continue for students who can participate. 

School will tentatively resume on Monday, April 7, 2025.
