Harney County resident sentenced to 70 month to the Oregon Department of Corrections

HARNEY COUNTY(Released by the Harney County District Attorney’s Office)-Burns, OR June 5, 2024 Justin Teeman was sentenced to 70 months Oregon Department of Corrections at the conclusion of a bench trial.  The charges were the result of a series of criminal acts in August and December of 2023.

On August 11, 2023 Burns Police Department, Bureau of Indian Affairs and Harney County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a domestic assault that occurred in rural Harney County.  The initial victim reported Teeman struck her head with the magazine of a pistol causing observable injury.

During the course of the same evening, Burns Police Officer Dustin Beers responded to Harney District Hospital for a report of an assault.  Officer Beers interviewed an additional victim.  This second victim reported Teeman arrived with another individual at the victim’s residence and struck the victim with a pistol.  The assault of the victim continued after the victim fell to the ground and ended when Teeman fled with the other individual.  The victim suffered a sprained thumb and fractured orbital bone. 

A Harney County Grand Jury indicted Teeman on multiple assault charges.  Harney County District Attorney Ryan Hughes requested the defendant be held.  The request was granted. However, a third party posted bail for Teeman.

In November of 2023 it was learned Teeman was violating the conditions of his release.  A warrant for arrest was granted.  During apprehension of TEEMAN in December 2023, Harney County Deputies Robby Tiller and Cody Rusow observed a chainsaw.  It was later learned the chainsaw was connected to a burglary investigation conducted by Hines Officer Mike Mitchell.  Further investigation revealed a co-defendant sold the stolen chainsaw to apply money to the now jailed Teeman’s account.

A Harney County Grand Jury indicted Teeman on Burglary in the Second Degree and two counts of Theft in the First Degree.

eeman was held pending a bench trial on June 4, 2024.  He was found guilty of Harassment, two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, Assault in the Third Degree, Assault in the Fourth Degree and Harassment.  The convictions constituted a new crimes probation violation in a previous case of Teeman’s.

Prior to sentencing on June 5, 2024, Teeman plead guilty to the subsequent burglary and theft charges.  At sentencing, District Attorney Ryan Hughes requested consecutive sentences consisting of: a revoke of the defendant’s probation with a corresponding six-month sentence, ten days for harassment, seventy months for merged assault charges, twenty days on merged burglary/theft charge and twenty days on the final theft charge.  Mr. Teeman was sentenced accordingly and when released will be subject to thirty-six months post prison supervision.
