HARNEY COUNTY-Starting February 3, 2025 and continuing through April 14, 2025, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is providing free tax assistance and preparation on Mondays and Wednesdays though its Tax-Aide program here in Burns. The program has been ongoing in Harney County for over 30 years. The Foundation Tax-Aide program is the nationโs largest volunteer based free tax preparation service. the volunteers are locally trained and IRS certified individuals who understand the largest changes to the U.S. Tax Code.
the tax site is located at the Harney Hub, located at 17 S. Alder in Burns. The tax preparation process will entail in-person service. The taxpayer(s) will need to be present throughout the entire preparation of the tax return.
The Tax-Aide packers will be available at the Harney Hub on Monday, January 27, 2025. The packet instructions describe how to make an appointment and what forms and documents the taxpayer(s) need to bring at the time of their appointment. Also, phot ID and social security cards for all individuals listed on the tax return are required.
The program is open to taxpayers of all ages and income. Membership in AARP is not required. The only thing that might not allow them to complete your tax return is the complexity and type of income.
