Harney County man sentenced to 80 months with the Oregon Department of Corrections

HARNEY COUNTY (released by Harney County Circuit Court)-April 17, 2024 Osmus GARFIELD was sentenced to a total of 80 months Oregon Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to three different charges. The charges stem from an initial criminal actin April of 2023.

On April 14, 2023 Burns Police department, assisted by Harney County Sheriff’s Department and Oregon State Police, responded to a domestic violence call on Crane Boulevard, Burns Or. The victim reported GARFIELD returned to the residence after an argument earlier in the day and attempted to forcibly enter
the residence. Eventually coercing the victim that if she did not allow entry, her property would be damaged.

June 14, 2023 local law enforcement agencies responded to the area of East Jackson Street in Burns, Oregon. It was reported GARFIELD assaulted the victim by striking him in the head with, what was later confirmed to be, a black powder pistol. GARFIELD was apprehended, placed in custody and held.

While in custody at the Harney County Jail, on July 10, 2023 GARFIELD was found to be in possession of a honed dangerous weapon. GARFIELD was purportedly making statements regarding using the weapon
against a corrections deputy and was later to be found in possession of additional dangerous contraband items.

Harney Count District Attorney Ryan Hughes prosecuted the case. A Harney Count Grand Jury indicted GARFIELD on multiple charges spanning three different cases.

GARFIELD plead guilty to Coercion, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Supply Contraband. He was sentenced respectively to 25 months, 25 months and 30 months consecutive followed by 24 months post-prison supervision.
