Yesterday, the Army Corps of Engineers was in Burns to consult and assess the current flooding situation, including the integrity of the dike/levee and discuss future planning. The dike/levee is holding up as it should.
City of Burns Public Works has made progress on the water levels that caused the North Broadway flooding. Water levels dropped yesterday by approximately a foot from the previous day. Youโve probably noticed that what had become Triangle Lake, has returned to its former glory of Triangle
Partners including ODHS Office of Emergency of Resilience and Management (OREM) and Harney County Emergency Management continue to work nonstop to coordinate and provide resources to our area, including showers for impacted residents.
Current NOAA predictions are forecasting that the Silvies River will reach minor flood staging by mid-morning March 25. Keep in mind, in some areas we had up to 215% snowpack and we will likely see more runoff than projected with the warmer temps leading into next week. In preparation for next weekโs warmer weather and anticipated increase of flooding, Level 1 Evacuation notices are being made. HCSO Deputies will be making contact with residents in the area for notification as well as collecting information about any needs should we get to the point of an actual evacuation. If no one is home, a notice will be left on the door.
