Harney County-Effective July 19, 2023, Fire restrictions are going into place on the Bureau of Land Management-administered land within the Burns Interagency Fire Zone. this means campfires, including charcoal briquette fires, are prohibited, except within established fire rings at Fish Lake and Jackman Park campgrounDs. Smoking is permitted only in areas without flammable material at least 6 feet in diameter. Personal chainsaw use is permitted only after 8 p.m. and before 1 p.m., local time, and a 1-hour fire watch is required at the close of operations. Off-road or cross-country travel or parking in areas not clear of vegetation, berm to berm, is prohibited. Travelers must carry a shovel and gallon of water or fully charged fire extinguisher; and, all types of motorcycles and all-terrain vehicles must be equipped with a fully-functioning, U.S. Forest Service approved, spark arrestor. Fireworks, exploding targets or metallic targets, steel component ammunition (core or jacket), tracer or incendiary devices, and sky lanterns are prohibited (as of May 23).
