HARNEY COUNTY-Harney County Clerk Dag Robinson was selected to serve as president of the Oregon Association of County Clerks (OACC) on Aug. 13.ย

Its membership – which includes both appointed and elected clerks, recorders and election officials from each of Oregon’s 36 counties – is the foremost association providing leadership, education, legislative expertise and civic engagement pertaining to the administration of elections and real property records throughout the state.ย

After serving as OACC’s secretary, treasurer, and vice president, Robinson was nominated by a leadership selection committee and unanimously voted to serve as president.ย

The role of OACC president is one of critical importance, and in this role, Robinson will be responsible for organizing association events, and advancing the security, accessibility, transparency and integrity of Oregon’s Vote by Mail Elections and Land Record management processes and systems.ย

Thiswork has been Robinsons’ focus for the past 15 years serving as the County Clerk, and 16 as Deputy Clerk. He has administered 76 elections in Harney County and assisted his colleagues with special elections over the years in two other counties.ย

His career in elections spans 30 plus years, starting as a helper while in High School for County Clerk Delores Swisher, setting up polling places and preparing poll books and equipment.ย

Applying for Deputy Clerk in Harney County was an opportunity to come back home where he grew up and “do what I love doing”, he said. I had terrific mentors in Dee Swisher and Maria Iturriaga.”ย

Robinson helped guide the County through the implementation of Vote-by-Mail, online voter registration, interstate data matching, and Oregon Motor Voter, the first-in-the-country automatic voter registration process.ย

He has also overseen the implementation of innovative technology solutions to improve efficiency and increase voters’ confidence in election processes through total transparency in the handling and counting of ballots, and on the Records side, streamlining the Document Recording and Management processes, and implementation of the soon-to-be-live Property Recording Alert Service.ย

Robinson recently completed a term as Chairman of the Standards Board for the United States Election Assistance Commission and remains on the Executive Committee for that Agency.ย

As the president of OACC, Robinson will continue to provide leadership on a variety of subjects, including efforts to dispel election misinformation, disinformation and mal information. He will continue to provide legislative testimony and help draft legislation as a subject-matter expert on elections.ย

“As we come into another federal election year, we’re working closely with the Secretary of State’s Office to ensure that counties have clear guidance on rulemaking and standards for midterm elections,” said Robinson.ย

Robinson has a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science / public administration from Boise State University. He is a Certified Election and Records Administrator, and Certified County Clerk through the Oregon Association of County Clerks.ย

In his personal time, he enjoys spending time in our woods with friends, and with his wife Rachael and their pets Sadie and Allie.ย

Robinson’s tenure as OACC president lasts for one year, but as is the custom for association presidents, he will remain on the executive board through the subsequent year.ย

“Dag’s commitment to ensuring that elections are accessible, transparent and secure for Harney County voters has ensured that our voting system is the best in the country,” County Judge Bill Hart said. “I’m thrilled that his peers recognize his passion and expertise, and I have every confidence that he will serve the OACC and its membership successfully.”ย

Robinson is excited to Host the 114th Annual Conference of the Oregon Association of County Clerks in Harney County for a week next August.
