Hansell to lead Happy Canyon

PENDLETON – The Happy Canyon Board of Directors has elected Kenzie Hansell of Athena to be the 2022 president. Hansell, 41, is a fourth-generation Athena farmer who has volunteered for Happy Canyon and the Pendleton Round-Up for decades. This is his eighth year on the Happy Canyon board.

Hansell, who played football for Washington State University is the head football coach at Weston-McEwen High School. He is a former chairman of the Umatilla County Weed Department Board of Directors and has served or is serving on several other boards.

In addition to electing Hansell president, the board also named Brian Currin, 43, and Chris Stuvland, 30, to the board. Both are from Pendleton.

Currin has volunteered for Happy Canyon and the Round-Up for more than 20 years. He is currently finishing work with Pendleton Grain Growers and will serve as Happy Canyon’s court director. Stuvland is a broker for Whitney Land Company. He was 10 months old when he first appeared in the Happy Canyon Night Show and was the first recipient of the Roy Raley Youth Volunteer Award. Stuvland will serve as grounds director.
